My name is Tara Graham. My pronouns are she/her, and I'm a Diné woman. I am a licensed clinical social worker with a passion for helping people find a sense of love, acceptance, and belonging within themselves and within their communities. I love spending time with my friends and family, traveling, reading, and doing artsy things. Welcome to my page! I hope reading through this can give you a good sense of me to see if you think we would work well together.
I received my bachelors degree with a major in Psychology and a minor in Family Studies from Southern Utah University in 2014. A few years later, I graduated from the University of Utah Master of Social Work program in 2017. When I started my master’s program, I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted to do with my career, but I knew I had a passion for helping people. I gained a variety of work experience including working with parenting issues, autism, addiction, anxiety, depression, trauma, and more.
Although therapy is a team effort between a client and therapist, change can really only come from the client's choices and actions. Therefore, I think it's important the client has a say in how we do the work together. I hope to create a therapeutic environment in which my clients feel empowered and excited to take charge of their lives and their therapeutic goals.
To me, that means being true to myself. It’s important that I honor my clients’ identities and belief systems. I strive to create a safe space for people to feel they can be authentic as well. Bring your worries, your pain, your joy, your quirks, and everything that makes you who you are. Sidenote: It's normal for us to feel lost or unsure of ourselves at some points in our lives. So, if you're feeling unsure of who you are, I'd love to help you find your way back (or forward).
I do my best to provide consistency to my clients by maintaining a regular schedule, being available during my working hours, and providing as much notice as possible for any cancellations. Also, I think I'm pretty consistent in how I show up to guide each session. You'll learn quickly what things you can count on me for.
I value providing kindness and compassion to others. I also think it's important for people to be kind to ourselves. Shame spirals can be so painful. I hope to provide healing methods for people to learn to give themselves grace and learn to hold healthy boundaries.
I take my work and people’s lives seriously. I also think there are many opportunities to notice the little things that bring us joy. Humor can be a great coping skill!
As a therapist, I believe that healing starts with a strong, trusting relationship. As you work with me, you'll see that I do my best to follow through on commitments. I'll give you honest feedback in a kind tone to promote growth. I admit that I don't have all the answers, but I will be here for you to the best of my abilities.
